Pediatric Dentistry Services

As a pediatric dental office, Tooth Fairy Smiles is dedicated to the overall oral health of children. Dr. Prokop and her staff inspire the smallest, sometimes the most reluctant patients to develop and maintain healthy Hollywood smiles. Focusing on the prevention of disease through patient and parent education, our office provides treatments such as sealants, fluoride applications, and child-centered oral hygiene education.

Our office provides a full and comprehensive array of services to ensure that your child maintains a happy, healthy, and picture-perfect smile. Routine exams are important in preventing tooth decay and gum disease. Part of good oral hygiene is daily home care and professional cleanings every six months to help keep those bright, healthy smiles!

Cleaning and Fluoride

Routine 6-month exams are an important part of your child’s growth and development. These exams should begin with your child’s First Tooth or no later than their First Birthday to ensure your child’s primary teeth are erupting normally. In a technique called tell-show-do, a staff member will demonstrate the proper brushing technique with one of our friendly dragon puppets, on the child’s finger, then in the child’s mouth, explaining the process and involving the child. Regular cleanings and fluoride treatments help teeth stay healthy for a lifetime.

Silver Diamine Fluoride

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is an FDA-approved topical solution that treats and prevents dental caries. It is made with two active ingredients. The silver component is an antimicrobial agent that kills bacteria, while the fluoride prevents further breakdown of the tooth. Treatment with SDF does not eliminate the need for restorative dentistry (fillings/ crowns) but can be effective at preventing further decay. It is usually used in instances for special needs patients or young children who would have difficulty doing a filling.

In-Office Treatments

Tooth Fairy Smiles offers in-office restorative procedures such as composite (white) fillings, crowns, and more. Dental treatment options vary based on the age, health, and comfort level of both the child and the parents. We understand children, even parents, have anxieties. We are happy to explain procedures or resolve any and all concerns.

Hospital Dentistry

Tooth Fairy Smiles always prefers to complete any procedure in the least invasive manner possible. We offer nitrous oxide in addition to local anesthesia as needed. We often treat patients requiring special care who present special challenges related to age, behavior, medical status, and other special needs at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
